Die Ziegelei is like our second living room. Here you’ll find the best country-style cuisine. The menu is wonderfully clear, and some dishes are swapped out depending on the season. Everything tastes really good! The service is exceptionally friendly and attentive. In the summer, you can sit in the courtyard and watch the chefs at work.

On Sundays, Vito takes care of himself, on Mondays he takes care of his wife, and from Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00–17:00, he takes care of his guests. In summer, he is also open longer.
Honestly, I’m not a fan of pizza… except for La Pecora Nera, the one with the best pizza dough in Lübeck, goat cheese cream, and candied black walnuts. Of course, there’s plenty more to choose from. And the atmosphere in Vito’s little place is Italian in the best possible way.

On Booking.com or other platforms, the cancellation policies are as follows: free cancellation up to 3 days before arrival, 50% of the price from 3 days before until the day of arrival, and the full price if cancelled on the day of arrival.

Our breakfast will be served at your table from 8:00 – 11:00 AM.
We want to make the start of your day as pleasant as possible. For you, this means a relaxed atmosphere in our breakfast room without the rush of a buffet. For us, it allows us to prepare breakfast as individually and sustainably as possible. Come to our breakfast room, where a table set just for you is already waiting.
Whenever possible, we use regional organic products. As a result, the ingredients also change with the seasons.
What awaits you with us

This is accompanied by freshly ground coffee in many varieties from our machine, or a selection of teas from Trink mehr Teea Bremen-based organic tea manufacturer.
Allergies, celiac disease, and other intolerances
Of course, we also cater to requests for gluten- or lactose-free, vegetarian, or vegan products. We are also very familiar with other intolerances, especially celiac disease. Please feel free to let us know either upon arrival or in advance. Breakfast is always included in the room rate.
Our accessible rooms
Minimal mobility restrictions
We want to ensure that every guest enjoys a pleasant and comfortable stay with us. That’s why we are pleased to offer rooms that are largely designed to meet the needs of guests with limited mobility. Almost all of our rooms are spacious and provide plenty of room for wheelchairs and other mobility aids. The beds are conveniently accessible at a height of 54 cm. The showers are walk-in, equipped with a grab bar and a shower stool. Upon request, we are also happy to provide an additional shower chair.
A distinctive space with extraordinary possibilities
Room No. 1, in particular, has been designed and built with accessibility in mind. The doors are 93 cm wide, allowing easy passage for wheelchairs. The bathroom is extra spacious and, in addition to the amenities mentioned above, has no cabinet under the sink so that a wheelchair can be positioned directly in front of it. The cosmetic mirror is mounted at the appropriate height. There is a grab bar next to the toilet to assist with transfers.
A house without thresholds
In addition, our public areas are also designed to be fully accessible, allowing you to move around our hotel easily and independently. The rooms on the upper floors can be reached via a wheelchair-accessible elevator. To get from the street to the sidewalk and into the building, we are happy to provide a portable ramp. Please feel free to contact us in advance so we can discuss any individual support you may need. We are here to ensure that your stay with us is as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Of course, you are welcome to bring your dog to our hotel! We look forward to welcoming you and your furry friend. Dogs are often an important part of the family, so we expect your four-legged companion to be a well-behaved hotel guest who fits in calmly. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate dogs that shed excessively, are extremely energetic, or bark loudly. We hope for your understanding, as we are responsible for the comfort of all our guests.
And what about cats in the hotel?
Cats are just as welcome. The same guidelines that apply to dogs also apply to them. We expect your fluffy companions not to use our furniture as a scratching post and to behave appropriately.
What are the costs?
The exact costs for the final cleaning may vary depending on the length of your stay and the needs of your pet. Assistance dogs are, of course, exempt. Please feel free to contact us for more information and to plan your stay.
Well-tempered
In Lübeck, summers have traditionally been quite mild, so air conditioning was not considered necessary for a long time, and many buildings are still not equipped with it today. Instead, smaller hotels like ours deliberately rely on more environmentally friendly solutions such as natural ventilation or fans, as air conditioning is associated with high energy consumption.
In addition, our building is well insulated, which helps maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. The location of the hotel also has a positive effect, as the rooms receive very little direct sunlight.
If it does become too warm for you, we will of course be happy to provide you with a fan. Please feel free to contact us.

The Layhead B&B is ideal for traveling in small groups. The hotel offers an intimate setting that can best be described as “small but charming.” With its 8 rooms, our hotel can accommodate a maximum of 19 adults. We have 4 double rooms for 2 people each. Both of our deluxe rooms feature a mezzanine with an additional sleeping option. Our suite includes a bedroom as well as a living room with a sofa bed.
Room of possibilities
We named this room “Room of Possibilities” because here you can do more than just enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Events with catering can be held here without any problems. If the weather is nice, the aperitif can be enjoyed in the courtyard.
Small celebrations, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries… everything is possible. We also rent this room even if you are not staying at the hotel. Please feel free to contact us:

In addition to tables and chairs, our breakfast room also features a cozy seating area for about 10 people. Here, you can relax in the evening with a drink. In the summer, you can unwind on our lounge furniture in the garden.
There is a drinks fridge stocked with Bismarck Bräu, a local beer, sparkling wine from Althaus, a Lübeck house brand, and various soft drinks from Waterkant in Husum. You are also welcome to bring your own beverages and keep them chilled with us. There is no consumption requirement.

Mattress and topper
CocoMat focuses on solid craftsmanship. The mattresses are handmade with care and precision from natural materials such as coconut fibers, natural latex, and wool, without harmful chemicals. Duvet and pillows
Both are made from fine natural fibers such as cotton and silk. The breathability of these materials ensures a pleasant sleeping climate, no matter the season. We offer two types of pillows: one for back sleepers and one for side sleepers, so you can choose what best suits your sleeping habits. Together, both pillows provide comfortable back support if you want to read a little in bed. We’ve thought of that too when designing our beds. That’s why the backrest is slightly angled, so you don’t tip forward while reading. We’ve chosen two separate duvets per bed. They’re large enough that, if you wish, two people can snuggle under one. For allergy sufferers, we have down-free duvets and pillows. Feel free to ask us about them.

Our bed linen is made from 100% cotton. The quality and softness feel just like new, even after many washes.

extra beds for babies and children are available at no additional charge
Our hotel is very child-friendly. We have two rooms that are especially suitable for families traveling with children. Our suite features a living room with a sofa bed, where an extra bed can also be added. Additionally, our Deluxe Room No. 2 has a sofa bed on the mezzanine, comfortably accommodating two children up to 15 years old.
Baby crib
For our youngest guests, we provide complimentary baby cribs so your baby can enjoy a safe and comfortable night’s sleep. Please let us know in advance if you need a crib, so we can ensure it is ready in your room upon arrival. The crib can be placed directly next to the parents’ bed. One side can be lowered for easy access to your baby. Dimensions: Length 88 cm, Width 50 cm, Height 50 cm.
Rollaway bed for toddlers
For toddlers who are not yet ready for a regular bed, we are happy to provide complimentary rollaway beds. These beds are specially designed for the needs of toddlers, ensuring a restful sleep so that even the youngest family members can start the day well-rested. Dimensions: Length 120 cm, Width 60 cm, Height 15 cm.
Unfortunately, our double rooms are not suitable for rollaway beds.
In our breakfast room, there is a shelf stocked with various games, children’s books, and toys waiting for our younger guests.
Is our hotel sustainable?
Sustainability is a word often used for marketing purposes today. We don’t want to overuse it and aim to be transparent. Our building is made of cement and reinforced concrete. These materials are not ideal, as cement—and the clinker it contains—releases a significant amount of CO₂ during production. Unfortunately, in Lübeck’s city center, we had no alternative. For fire safety reasons, a fully wooden construction was not possible. Therefore, it would be misleading to claim that our hotel or building was constructed sustainably. Precisely for this reason, we strive to operate in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
Our rooms and their furnishings
When furnishing the rooms, we ensured that the wood used for the furniture and flooring is certified. The only exception is the wooden floor in the breakfast room, which is made from wood scraps from a large joinery. The floor was personally installed by the owner, Lars Eckloff, while his father cut the pieces to the correct size… at least 2,000 pieces. Many of the chairs were found through online classifieds and have been given a second life with us. We also discovered some of the lamps there. Most of the light bulbs are LEDs, and the ceiling lights in the hallways are operated by motion sensors. We only use green electricity. The colors in our rooms are from Farrow and Ball. The ingredients are eco-certified.
Our bathrooms
In our bathrooms, we do not use single-use packaging for cosmetic products.
We use refillable soap dispensers, with soap from the organic cosmetics manufacturer Sonett. We provide cosmetic tissues to prevent guests from using our washcloths and towels for makeup removal, which helps avoid harsh detergents in the laundry. The bins in the bathrooms do not have garbage bags; instead, we provide small hygiene bags as needed. If you require larger trash bags, please feel free to ask us.
Towel replacement
A now common practice: If you’d like fresh towels, simply place the used ones on the floor and we’ll replace them. Our terry cloth linens are from Spain and Oeko-Tex 100 certified. We haven’t found a German company that offers such high-quality organic cotton at a reasonable price-performance ratio. Learn more here: resuinsa.com/en/sustainability/. Our faucets and showerheads are water-saving. An integrated flow regulator reduces water usage while maintaining the same pressure. If you prefer to skip housekeeping, just let us know. Unless we hear otherwise, rooms are briefly cleaned daily, beds made, and trash bins emptied. Most of our cleaning products are from Frosch and thus ecologically degradable.
Well-stocked fridge
There is no minibar in the rooms. Instead, our guests have access to a well-stocked drinks fridge in the breakfast room. It is filled with Bismarck Bräu, a local beer, sparkling wine from Althaus, a Lübeck house brand, and various soft drinks from Waterkant in Husum.
